A unique visual signature based on accords, character, and seasonality
Bergamot and lemon arrive with startling intensity, crisp and almost sharp, immediately tempered by that crystalline oxygen note and a dewy rose that feels more herbal than floral. The first five minutes feel almost aromatic, green-leaning, before the composition settles into something more refined.
The passion fruit emerges around the 90-minute mark, introducing a subtle tartness that plays against the woody cedar and powdery iris. This is where Saiph reveals its contradictions—neither purely fresh nor purely sweet, the fragrance hangs in a sophisticated liminal space where green florals meet soft fruitiness, the vanilla beginning its patient warming from the base.
Within four hours, the cedar and vetiver take command whilst patchouli adds a faint earthiness; the musk and amber create a warm, slightly powdery finish that feels almost vintage. The passion fruit has largely dissipated, leaving a gentle, skin-scent quality—this becomes a fragrance you smell rather than others detecting, intimate and reserved until the final whisper fades.
Saiph arrives as a peculiar collision between refinement and restraint, a fragrance that whispers rather than announces. Paolo Terenzi's 2017 creation opens with a sharp citric snap—bergamot and lemon cutting through an unusual "oxygen" accord that feels less like ozonic freshness and more like crystalline air itself, almost metallic in its clarity. The rose enters early, not as a lush bloom but as something dewy and green-tinged, refusing traditional florality.
What's most compelling about Saiph is its fruity-floral tension. The passion fruit in the heart notes creates an unexpectedly tart conversation with the iris and cedar, preventing this from becoming another soft, powdery floral. Instead, you get something almost tart—a fragrance caught between wanting to be a sophisticated white floral and an energetic fruity composition. The cedar grounds everything with a woody dryness that feels almost masculine, whilst the green notes maintain that strange, fresh quality introduced at the top.
