Frapin
A unique visual signature based on accords, character, and seasonality
Rum hits first, not as boozy vapour but as a spiced sweetness reminiscent of aged barrel wood and dried fruit. The lime cuts through with sharp citric clarity whilst davana adds honeyed depth, creating an opening that feels both intoxicating and restrained.
The mint and geranium emerge as the composition cools, introducing a unexpected aromatic freshness that momentarily lifts the darker elements. The tobacco begins its slow emergence, still soft and leather-like rather than smoky, whilst the sweet tonka bean pushes upward from the base.
The fragrance transforms into a resinous, amber-tinged skin scent dominated by labdanum, styrax, and tonka bean. What remains is deeply intimate and woody, with barely a whisper of the initial rum and citrus—a warm, slightly honeyed dryness that clings close to skin like expensive cologne absorbed into aged cloth.
Frapin's Speakeasy conjures the dimly lit interior of a Prohibition-era bar, where aged spirits and contraband whiskey define the atmosphere. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato has crafted something deliberately paradoxical: a fragrance built on rum and tobacco that somehow avoids smelling like a dive bar, instead presenting itself as a civilised study in spiced restraint.
The spiced accord dominates at 100%, yet it never becomes aggressive. Davana and lime work in tandem—the former lending a dried-fruit sweetness reminiscent of apricot leather, the latter providing citric brightness that prevents the composition from descending into murky territory. This opening salvo establishes character: this is a fragrance for someone who appreciates complexity without spectacle.
