Fragrance Du Bois
A unique visual signature based on accords, character, and seasonality
Davana erupts with tart, almost fruity volatility whilst cinnamon crackles across the opening, acrid and slightly resinous. Saffron threads through like amber-coloured smoke, grounding the top notes with mineral earthiness before geranium's green, slightly peppery character adds unexpected freshness.
The floral accord emerges gradually as the spice retreats into the background—rose absolute anchors the composition with powdery richness whilst orange blossom and jasmine create a creamy, almost indolic sweetness. Ylang ylang adds a waxy, tropical undertone that prevents the florals from becoming strictly traditional.
Patchouli moves centre stage with a damp, slightly fermented character, complemented by frankincense's smoky, incense-like dryness. Labdanum and sandalwood create a warm, faintly sweet skin scent that persists as soft amber rather than forceful presence.
Cavort arrives as a calculated contradiction—simultaneously sultry and bright, spiced yet refined. The davana-cinnamon opening bristles with almost peppery energy before the heart notes dissolve into something far more sensual: rose absolute interlaces with orange blossom and jasmine, creating a creamy floral mass that never tips into hedonistic sweetness because of the frank spiciness threading underneath. What's remarkable is how Gaël Montero orchestrates restraint within abundance; this is a seven-note heart that somehow avoids cacophony.
The Indonesian patchouli in the base isn't the earthy, rooted kind—it reads almost animalic, slightly mossy, cutting through what could have been a saccharine finish. Indian frankincense adds ceremonial weight, something almost liturgical, whilst labdanum contributes a honeyed amber quality that softens without sentimentalising. The sandalwood emerges as a creamy anchor, preventing the composition from becoming too heady.
