Areej Le Doré
A unique visual signature based on accords, character, and seasonality
Raspberry's sharp tartness explodes across the opening moments, aggressively bright and almost slightly tart—a disarming gambit that positions this as distinctly non-traditional oud. Rose and ylang ylang attempt diplomacy but are immediately undermined by a creeping herbal bitterness from what must be the grim note, creating an unsettling, slightly astringent introduction.
The composition settles into deliberate tension as vetiver's mineral coolness meets cocoa's bitter warmth, whilst hinoki wood provides piercing brightness. Black truffle emerges as the composition's masterstroke—earthy, faintly funky, and utterly destabilising, transforming the fragrance into something genuinely provocative and thoroughly compelling.
Musk, sandalwood, and amber establish a creamy, subtly spicy foundation that retains traces of truffle's earthiness and vetiver's minerals, fading into a refined woody-floral skin scent that maintains its slightly challenging character until the final fade.
Oud Picante arrives as a deliberate provocation—a fragrance that refuses the sanctimony of conventional oud composition. Pierre Guillaume constructs something genuinely confrontational here: raspberry's tart acidity cuts through the opening like a blade, immediately destabilising any expectation of reverent olfactory meditation. This isn't oud positioned as precious amber-toned nobility; instead, it's been dragged into a kitchen garden where it collides with rose and ylang ylang in a distinctly uncomfortable embrace.
The composition's true character emerges in its heart, where the friction becomes deliberately sensual. Vetiver's green, mineral edge refuses to soften the woody structure, whilst cocoa introduces an almost medicinal richness—think bitter cacao nibs rather than confectionery sweetness. Black truffle then arrives like an unwelcome guest at a formal dinner, its earthy umami funk rendering the entire composition slightly unsettling, slightly magnetic. Hinoki wood adds a sharp, almost pencil-shaving brightness that prevents the scent from wallowing in its own intensity.
