A unique visual signature based on accords, character, and seasonality
The attack is bright and almost tea-like—apple's crisp flesh mingling with bergamot's citric snap whilst lemon adds further vitality. Green notes flutter through like hints of stem and leaf, immediately suggesting this won't be a straightforward fruity romp, and that cardamom spice begins its emergence, sharp and almost peppery against the sweetness.
As the citrus dissipates, violet and jasmine bloom with surprising authority, whilst the cardamom finally reveals its full hand—warm, rounded, almost creamy against the floral tones. The rose note, previously hidden, surfaces beneath the jasmine, creating a three-tiered floral landscape where each component maintains its own space. Caramel from the base begins its slow ascent, adding honeyed sweetness without overshadowing the spiced florals.
What remains is decidedly ambered—benzoin and tonka bean create a soft, almost skin-like base where oakmoss provides subtle earthy grounding. The patchouli adds texture here, a faint roughness against the creamy musk, whilst lingering traces of violet powder and that cardamom spice ghost across the composition. The sweetness remains present but muted, more memory than statement, allowing the fragrance to settle into a warm, slightly spiced embrace against the skin.
Levar del Sole arrives as a contradictory beast—all sunshine and shadow, candied fruit meeting earthy resin. The opening salvo of apple and bergamot suggests something brisk and morning-fresh, but cardamom waiting in the wings threatens to complicate matters immediately. This is where XerJoff's hand becomes evident: rather than allowing these fruity-citric elements to dominate as they might in a mass-market fragrance, they're wrestled into submission by a violet-tinged floral heart that feels simultaneously delicate and unapologetic.
The true character emerges in the interplay between jasmine's honeyed warmth and that creeping cardamom—there's an almost confectionery spice here, reminiscent of masala chai meets high-end confiture. Violet adds a slightly powdery, almost soapstone quality that prevents the sweetness from cloying, whilst the green notes provide necessary counterbalance, keeping everything honest.
