A unique visual signature based on accords, character, and seasonality
The fragrance announces itself with zesty mandarin and bergamot fractured by blackcurrant's tart snap, whilst creamy magnolia and lily of the valley float beneath like perfumed cream. Tarragon's herbal whisper prevents the opening from reading purely fruity-floral, instead lending an intriguingly botanical character.
Jasmine and rose emerge with violet's powdery undertones, supported by rosemary's minty clarity and abstract woody notes that blur rather than define. The composition becomes increasingly delicate here, the florals softening into something gossamer and intimate, almost transparent against skin warmth.
What remains is primarily vanilla and sandalwood attempting to establish warmth, but they're fighting a losing battle against the fragrance's fundamental fragility. Within hours, only a faint amber-musk shadow persists—a scent remembered rather than smelled.
Very Valentino is a fragrance caught between two identities, never quite committing to either with conviction. Daniela Andrier crafted something deliberately soft—a whisper rather than a declaration—which is both its charm and its fundamental limitation. The composition opens with an unusually generous citrus-floral blend where blackcurrant and mandarin orange provide tart counterpoint to a creamy magnolia base, whilst lily of the valley adds that slightly metallic, aldehydic bite that prevents the top notes from becoming purely sweet. There's a subtle herbal thread running through the opening courtesy of tarragon, which gives the composition an almost botanical herbaceousness.
As it settles, the heart reveals a delicate rose-jasmine-violet triumvirate, but here's where Very Valentino reveals its reticence: these florals are rendered with remarkable restraint. The jasmine doesn't bloom boldly; instead, it sits alongside rosemary and woody notes that feel more like suggestions than declarations, as though the composition is afraid of overwhelming. The woody-floral accord creates something almost aquatic in its translucence—refreshing but ephemeral.
