Tiziana Terenzi
A unique visual signature based on accords, character, and seasonality
The frankincense hits like a thurible swung with abandon, billowing clouds of resinous smoke cut through with the sharp, almost metallic bite of star anise. Lemon provides the barest brightness before wormwood's bitter green edge turns the opening surprisingly austere, verging on medicinal.
Ceylon cinnamon and Sichuan pepper ignite a prickling warmth that borders on uncomfortable, whilst carnation's clove-like spice intensifies the heat to near-fever pitch. Galbanum flashes its green fangs intermittently, and thyme weaves through like an herbal salve attempting to soothe what the pepper has inflamed.
Blond tobacco finally emerges as peacemaker, its honeyed sweetness tempered by benzoin's vanilla-tinged resin and amber's warmth. Birch adds a smouldering, almost leathery quality whilst tonka and white musk provide the ghost of softness, though the cedar and patchouli ensure this never becomes truly tame.
Lillipur is an incense lover's fever dream, where Omani frankincense doesn't merely whisper—it roars through the composition like smoke through a medieval church. Paolo Terenzi has orchestrated a complex conversation between the resinous Top and a surprisingly fiery heart, where Ceylon cinnamon and Sichuan pepper create an almost medicinal heat that borders on challenging. The star anise lends a liquorice-tinged sweetness that prevents the frankincense from becoming too austere, whilst Roman wormwood adds an almost absinthe-like bitterness that keeps you guessing.
What makes Lillipur compelling is its refusal to play safe. The carnation in the heart brings a spicy, almost clove-like facet that amplifies rather than softens the composition's ecclesiastical bones. Galbanum's green snap cuts through the smoke periodically, like shafts of light through stained glass, whilst thyme adds an herbal, almost culinary quality that shouldn't work but somehow does. The base is where tobacco, benzoin, and amber finally arrive to smooth the edges—though 'smooth' is relative here. This is cashmere wood rendered in rough-hewn planks, birch tar adding a leathery smokiness that never quite settles into comfort.
