Jovoy
A unique visual signature based on accords, character, and seasonality
A sharp, nearly abstract burst of aldehydes meets pepper's prickle and coriander's spicy warmth, whilst the tomato leaf injects something almost culinary—herbaceous and slightly green-fleshed. Cyclamen's peppery florality appears immediately, preventing any softness from establishing itself too quickly.
The gardenia and jasmine finally bloom properly, though they emerge into a distinctly botanical rather than romantic landscape. Mimosa brings powdery softness, yet styrax's balsamic depth keeps everything grounded and slightly earthy; the overall effect feels like standing in a flower-filled room with open windows letting in cool, spiced air.
Oakmoss and cedar create a woody skeleton, whilst vanilla and musk provide gossamer-thin sweetness rather than gourmand richness. A whisper of raspberry persists—almost perfumey, like dried petals in a sachet—before the fragrance settles into a clean, slightly resinous whisper against the skin.
Gardez-Moi arrives as a paradox—a fragrance that wants to be both a sunlit garden and a spice merchant's stall, yet never quite commits fully to either. Bertrand Duchaufour has constructed something deliberately fractured, where aldehydes bristle against a tomato leaf's green bite, whilst coriander and black pepper introduce an almost savoury quality that prevents this from becoming another faceless floral. This is the olfactory equivalent of wearing a silk dress over a wool jumper: elegant materials in slight discord.
The gardenia and ylang ylang heart is generously proportioned—almost to the point of domination—but styrax's resinous warmth and mimosa's soft fuzz prevent it from reading as conventional. What distinguishes Gardez-Moi is its green undertow: that tomato leaf and cyclamen partnership creates a slightly bruised, almost botanical quality that lingers beneath the florals like watermark on expensive paper. It's neither quite masculine nor feminine; rather, it possesses the androgynous quality of someone who gardens in vintage linen and doesn't particularly care if you approve.
