A unique visual signature based on accords, character, and seasonality
Black pepper detonates against rose petals still damp with night dew, the Queen of the Night flower adding an almost dizzying, jasmine-adjacent richness that borders on overripe. There's an immediate spiced warmth, but it's shadowed and sophisticated rather than Christmas-market obvious.
The patchouli emerges fully now, earthy and slightly bitter, creating fascinating tension with the waxy lily and that dark caramel-chocolate suggestion of Crème Noir. The florals become more subdued, less recognisable, melting into the woody-resinous structure like petals pressed into amber.
What remains is a skin-close hum of honeyed benzoin and vanilla, still grounded by persistent patchouli and amber warmth. The sweetness has softened considerably but never turns powdery or innocent—there's always that woody, slightly bitter undertone keeping things interesting.
Sensuous Noir takes the honeyed warmth of its predecessor and plunges it into shadow, wrapping everything in patchouli-darkened velvet. The opening strikes immediately with black pepper crackling against rose petals, whilst the Queen of the Night flower—that intoxicating nocturnal bloomer—adds an almost narcotic headiness that separates this from polite floral ambers. There's something deliberately Gothic about the treatment here; the lily in the heart isn't fresh or Easter-morning clean, but rather waxy and funeral-parlour solemn, bruised against earthy patchouli and that mysterious 'Crème Noir' accord which reads like burnt caramel and dark cocoa.
What makes this compelling is how the sweetness never quite dominates. The honey and vanilla in the base are substantial—this isn't a timid dab of sweetness—but they're perpetually hemmed in by benzoin's resinous, slightly smoky character and that insistent woody-amber backbone. The result feels like expensive dark chocolate with rose cream centres, dusted with pepper, left on a mahogany dresser overnight. It's unabashedly sensual without being overtly sexual, occupying that space between boudoir and cocktail bar.
