Chopard
A unique visual signature based on accords, character, and seasonality
Yuzu and Japanese pear collide with blackcurrant's dark berry richness, creating a tart-sweet citric snap that feels almost sparkling against the skin. Chinese gooseberry adds a subtle green undertone, briefly suggesting something fresher and more austere than what follows.
The florals emerge with surprising restraint—patchouli blossom and osmanthus create a powdery, almost dusty rose-like envelope, whilst jasmine adds creamy sweetness without dominance. Magnolia floats through as a barely-there whisper, lending a subtle soapiness that softens the developing gourmand notes.
Vanilla and tonka take absolute command, their sweetness deepened by amber's resinous warmth and frankincense's smoky, vaguely religious solemnity. What remains is intimate and skin-close—a honeyed, caramel-tinged second skin that barely projects beyond a few centimetres.
Wish Chopard arrives as a peculiar chimera—part fruit-forward confection, part powdery floral whisper—that refuses easy categorisation. Nathalie Lorson has constructed something deliberately contradictory here: the blackcurrant and yuzu burst forth with genuine citrus vigour, their tartness almost aggressive, yet this brightness is immediately tempered by a surge of sweetness that suggests toffee and tonka bean waiting in the wings. The heart unveils itself cautiously, where patchouli blossom (a rarer creature than standard patchouli, offering green-tinged florality rather than earthy depth) tangos with jasmine and magnolia, creating a powdery, almost cosmetic softness—think vintage makeup compacts and silk pressed against skin rather than heady romantic florals. There's osmanthus too, that apricot-tinged floral that adds a peculiar jammy quality, bridging the gap between the fruit-laden top and the gourmand base.
The fragrance settles into its truest character: a vanilla-amber embrace with frankincense adding ceremonial weight and tonka contributing almost a caramel-biscuit sweetness. It's unisex by design but wears most naturally on someone who gravitates toward gourmand fragrances without needing aggressive projection—perhaps the type who prefers a scent as a private indulgence rather than a statement. Wish Chopard belongs to those intimate mornings when you're dressing for yourself, not an audience. The wear feels nostalgic despite its 1990s origins, recalling fragrances that prioritised character over commercial appeal.
